The Hampshire Hospitals NET data research group has continued to contribute actively to the international neuroendocrine literature. At UKI NETS 2025, five abstracts were accepted, including an oral presentation on the effect of surgery on survival in pancreatic NET <2 cm, which was awarded the Second-Best Oral Presentation. At ENETS 2026, eight abstracts were accepted, including a mini-oral presentation on the incidence of second gastrointestinal primary malignancies in patients with GEP-NET, and a further abstract on the effect of surgery on survival in metastatic (stage IV) disease as a staged poster.
Peer-reviewed output has continued, with recent papers on hemicolectomy versus appendicectomy for appendiceal NETs 1–2 cm (J Neuroendocrinol), the geographical distribution of NET incidence in England (J Neuroendocrinol), and survival outcomes of 10,244 lung NETs from England and the USA (Endocr Relat Cancer). Manuscripts are currently being prepared on surgery for stage IV primary small intestinal NETs and on the surgical management of small pancreatic NETs.
The group has been awarded a grant to examine whether primary small intestinal NET and carcinoid heart disease surgery should be performed in large or small centres; this work is now underway. The group is also nearing completion of its contribution to the Get Data Out project, after which national incidence figures for NET occurring in England will be made openly available online which is likely the first truly web-accessible, country-wide NET incidence.
