The Education and Training Committee have now finalised our remit and strategic aims.We have carried out a review of where NETs appear in the specialty training curricula and looked at which learning outcomes are applicable to which groups and where there are overlaps and gaps.  Consequently we have been focussing on a number of areas.

We are working with the NET Patient Foundation to redevelop and update the existing GP toolkit to help with management of patients with NETs. We will also be working with education for nurses, however we are aware that there is already a strong education and development structure for nursing within ENETs and await the results of two surveys  currently running with nursing staff from the UK and Europe to help inform our strategy with the aim of working in partnership.

Based on our curriculum review are planning one-day ‘foundation course’ – NETsBasics, for early-years SpRs, nurses, dietitians or anyone else who works with patients with NETS and would like a better understanding of the basics. This will be led by a small committed faculty with good quality teaching, incorporating short talks, interactive sessions,  ‘mock’ MDT and high-quality teaching materials. It may be possible to run this in parallel with a patient education course organised by the NETpatient foundation. In the longer term, aspirations include extending the programme for increased CPD or even an award-bearing accredited programme – however this is some way off!

For specialists already working in the field we would encourage them to use our policy for cobadging meetings in order to gain UKINETs endorsement of local initiatives.
